About Me

Tony Norfield: I use the term ‘imperialism’ in the classical sense to describe the system of domination in the capitalist world economy. Liberal commentary is more open these days to some notion of imperialism. But usually it is another country that is being imperialist, especially the US, and not the home country. The focus on the US is understandable, but ignores the role that a number of other countries play in the system, not least the UK. If we uncover this too, we will get a better analysis of what is really going on in the world. I am based in London and my academic training is in economics and mathematics. I worked for 8 years as an economic consultant, and for close to 20 years in bank dealing rooms in the City, latterly as Executive Director in charge of analysing global FX markets for a major European bank. I have travelled to some 40 countries on business. At present I am researching imperialism and the world economy. I want this blog to generate informed debate & discussion. Comments are welcome. Nobody has all the answers; anyone can make mistakes. But that is no excuse for being an idiot and not seeking the truth.
